It was a dream come true in the history of Isoko ethnic nationality as Isoko Youth Assembly-IYA Worldwide in collaboration with Renaissance Girl-Child and Women Initiative successfully held the phase one program of Public Awareness Sensitization on Ending Sexual Gender Based Violence, tagged: ‘Silence is Violence, Speak Out’ at the Olomoro Civic Center, Olomoro in Isoko South LGA of Delta State on Tuesday 29th August 2023.
The event which was well attended by both genders had the presence of the President General of Olomoro Kingdom, Deacon Emmanuel Oteri; Madam Beauty Elo Urokor, the President of Renaissance Girl-Child and Women Education Support Initiative In Nigeria; Comr. Prince Matthew Olomu, IYA President; Comr. Paul Agbama, IYA Board of Trustees Chairman and Comr. Insight Obrozie, IYA Women Leader.
Climax of the occasion was the extensive orientation campaigns by various invited guest speakers on the topic: Silence Is Violence, Speak Out. Chief Mrs Rose Uwubiti, Esq specifically explained on the need why our ladies must speak up when they are being maltreated and oppressed by their male counterparts which may likely result in depression because staying silent may cause the affected person gravely. The Barrister however used her late youngest sister as an example on how she was manhandled, beaten up all the time by her boyfriend whom she had three kids with, adding that her sister was silent instead of speaking up to find a preferable solution which she refused and died in the situation.
She continues that parents should always bring up their children by teaching them the require societal norms and not hiding vital information from them so they can understand the holistic life. She urged everyone most especially the females to take the orientation seriously, saying that the society we are in today is filled with uncontrollable traits where school dropout, drugs and substance addicted victims, child molestation and related crimes are rampant following the outcome of the harsh economy.
Notwithstanding, the case of social violence against the Girl-Child has been seen as a normal domestic conflict by their opposite sex, just as they are being described as weaker vessels in Africa homes, and so, the Africa man takes this advantage to moles both young and old females and as well relegate same to nothing while undermining their fundamental human rights with native ideologies. But the wake of Girl-Child Education by activists across the globe is drastically reducing this phenomenon.
With this collective effort by both organizations to fight this inhuman act against the Girl-Child, and eradicate related vices that will hamper the well-being of the underprivileged in Isoko, Delta State and Nigeria at large will no doubt minimize the situation. The primary objective of this collaboration is aimed at promoting social violence-free environments, eliminating social vices which may include child labor, child marriage, human trafficking, and drug abuse in our society.
Others that were present include but not limited to; Kejekpo Omonade, Executive Director of Poverty Alleviation For the Poor Initiative (PAFPI) Ughelli; Oruke Olotu (JP) Executive Director of Oruke Foundation.
