S’Court Verdict: The Coast is Now Clear for Good Governance — Prince Matthew Olomu Congratulates Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Supreme Court Victory
President General of the Isoko Youth Assembly (IYA), Comrade Prince Matthew Olomu, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, following the Supreme Court’s verdict affirming his victory in the 2023 gubernatorial election. With this legal victory, Prince Olomu expressed confidence that the path is now clear for Governor Oborevwori to fully focus on delivering good governance to meet the expectations of Deltans.
The Supreme Court, in its lead judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro on January 19, 2024, dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, declaring that the appeal lacked merit. The Court upheld the result of the gubernatorial election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 18, 2023, in which Governor Oborevwori was declared the winner.
In his statement, Prince Matthew Olomu, who leads the Legalized Isoko Youth Assembly, emphasized that with this final ruling, the distractions that previously hindered the governor’s ability to fully deliver on his promises have been eliminated. He urged Deltans and stakeholders to rally behind Governor Oborevwori, stating, “The time for playing politics is over. It is now time for all Deltans to focus on the infrastructural and human capital development needed to move the state forward.”
Prince Olomu expressed optimism that the governor’s victory will pave the way for accelerated progress in the state, particularly in the areas of infrastructure and human capital development. He called on all political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to unite in support of the governor’s administration to move Delta State to greater heights.
In the wake of the Supreme Court ruling, spontaneous jubilation erupted at the Isoko Youth Assembly Secretariat in Olomoro Kingdom, Isoko South Local Government Area. The celebrations reflect the widespread relief and joy among supporters of Governor Oborevwori, who view the verdict as a crucial step toward sustained peace and development in Delta State.
Meanwhile, Comrade Paul Agbama, Founder and BOT Chairman of the Isoko Youth Assembly, urged former Deputy Senate President Barr. Ovie Omo-Agege and other political opponents to set aside differences and work with Governor Oborevwori for the betterment of the state. “Now that the legal battles are over, it is time to focus on governance and elevate Delta State to even greater heights,” Agbama stated, stressing the need for collaboration to ensure the state continues on its path of progress.
As Delta State embarks on this new chapter, the IYA leadership reiterated its commitment to supporting the government in its efforts to foster unity, growth, and development for all Deltans.
To God be the Glory.
