On the 9th of August 2023, the Renaissance Girl-Child and Women Initiative partnered with the Isoko Youth Assembly Worldwide (IYA) in a unified effort to address and eradicate social violence against the girl child, as well as eliminate other social vices that hinder the well-being of the underprivileged in Delta State and Nigeria at large. This collaboration seeks to create a nurturing and protective environment for the girl child, allowing her to flourish and reach her full potential.
The President General of IYA, Prince Matthew Olomu, and Comrade Owhe Emmanuel, Senior Patron, emphasized the importance of support from governmental bodies and multinational organizations in achieving the objectives of the NGOs. They stressed the critical role these entities can play in reinforcing the work being done to protect vulnerable communities, especially girls and women, from violence and exploitation.
Promoting Social Violence-Free Environments
A key focus of the partnership is raising awareness about the prevalence and consequences of social violence against the girl child. Both organizations aim to educate communities, families, and individuals through outreach programs, seminars, and workshops. The goal is to build greater awareness of the need to protect and empower the girl child, addressing not just violence but also supporting the underprivileged, including those in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
Tackling Social Vices
Beyond combating violence against the girl child, this collaboration seeks to eliminate other pressing social issues such as child labor, child marriage, human trafficking, and drug abuse. These vices continue to trap many in cycles of poverty and oppression. Through advocacy and grassroots initiatives, the organizations hope to bring about long-term change, ensuring the protection of the most vulnerable in society.
Calls for Government and Corporate Support
Comrade Paul Agbama, Board of Trustees Chairman of IYA, and Comrade Owhe Emmanuel highlighted the need for collaboration between NGOs and both governmental agencies and multinational corporations. They urged these bodies to provide financial assistance, logistical support, and the legislative frameworks necessary to tackle the issues at hand.
Government agencies have the capacity to fund and allocate resources to the fight against social violence and other societal vices. Multinational corporations can leverage their influence and resources through corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, helping to amplify the efforts of NGOs like the Renaissance Girl-Child and Women Initiative and the Isoko Youth Assembly Worldwide.
A Milestone Partnership
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in the fight against social violence and exploitation of the girl child in Delta State and Nigeria. With the combined support of government agencies, multinational corporations, and civil society, the partnership aims to foster the well-being and empowerment of the most vulnerable members of society.
As both organizations work together, there is a call for collective action to raise awareness, educate communities, and advocate for positive societal change. Through this united effort, the goal is to create social environments that prioritize the rights, safety, and development of every girl child, enabling them to thrive and realize their full potential.
